When backing up your computer, possibly in preparation for a clean install of windows, there are small things that you wish you could have remembered to back up. Over the years, one of those things I’ve found that is easy forgotten is the Firefox bookmarks. They are very important (to some) and isn’t something that you normally think of when backing up your documents.
Firefox makes it incredibly easy to export your bookmarks from your PC and import them into another PC or into your PC at a later time.
To back up the Firefox bookmarks:
- Load Firefox and click on the Bookmarks tab
- Select “Organize Bookmarks” (Ctrl+Shift+B)
- Find “Import and backup”
- Click “Export HTML”
- Save under a filename you will remember and store it in a safe place

When you’re ready to import these saved bookmarks onto the PC of your choice, simply repeat the process except click the “Import HTML” button in step 4. I’ve found this particularly helpful for people who like to reformat windows a few times per year and don’t want to lose their bookmarks in the process.
Saving
Once you’ve got the bookmarks.htm backed up, you need to store it somewhere safe so you won’t lose it. I recommend storing it in one of these many places: thumb drive, external hard drive, online backup storage (if you have it), or another computer. Often storing it in many places is recommended so if one source fails, you have another way to retrieve your backups, or in this case, your Firefox bookmarks.
